Most of our computers run Linux, so most of the time I can ignore malware, trojans, viruses and all that. Something came up recently that sent me looking for a way to get rid of a google redirect virus on a computer running Windows XP. It seems to be a common enough problem – there are heaps of websites and forum posts on the topic – but sifting through all rubbish takes time. I ended up using HitmanPro and it found the offending dll and removed it for free. After rebooting the computer there were no more annoying redirects from google searches.
I write this in case it helps someone, and also to say thanks for the free program.
